Cerebellar degeneration-myositis complex (CDMC) is a disease of Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers that presents as a combination of cerebellar and neuromuscular disease.
Age of Onset: 10 weeks - 6 months of age
Sex Predisposition: Any sex of animal can be affected
Clinical Course:
​Clinical signs typically worsen over time with generalized weakness becoming apparent by 1 month of age.
Clinical Signs:
Behavioral/Mental Awareness
Exercise-intolerance
Episodic collapse

Movement
Generalized ataxia
Hypermetria (worse in the hind limbs)
Intentional head tremor
Generalized weakness
Stiff gait
Bunny hopping gait

Proprioception
Delayed hopping in all four limbs

Cranial Nerves
Absent menace response

Spinal Reflexes
Decreased withdrawal reflexes in all four limbs​
Cerebellum and skeletal muscle
Autosomal recessive SLC25A12 gene mutation
