Multisystem neuronal degeneration is an inherited progressive neurodegenerative disorder of the central nervous system (primarily affecting the cerebellar Purkinje cells, olivary nucleus, putamen, substantia nigra, and caudate nucleus)
Age of Onset: 6-8 months of age
Sex Predisposition: Any sex of animal can be affected
Clinical Course:
​Clinical signs worsen over the course of several months
Clinical Signs:
Posture and Apperance
When picked up, adopted a "saluting" posture (thoracic limbs above the head) or showed slow "dog-paddling" movements


Movement
Hypermetria (thoracic limbs > pelvic limbs)
Intention tremors (more prominent while eating)
Ataxia
Wide-based stance
Falling
Pacing
Diffuse central nervous system lesions
Autosomal recessive SERAC1 gene mutation
